I did finally get my email set up again, and was able to recover the account. Hi friends.
Life’s been nuts lately.
Colorado’s been wonderful, but hell on my body. I’m sure some of that is just getting older, but every time I go back to sea level, I feel better,a nd whatever nagging issue I’m currently experiencing goes away. So we’re moving. Conveniently (?), immediately after we decided that we should move at the end of Mark’s current contract, his contract got terminated. Six months-ish early.
He’s job-hunting. We’ll probably end up in either the Dallas area (Plano, there are jobs in Richardson that are what he does) or San Diego (but we’ll have to downsize 500 to 1000 square feet house-wise if so). I’m trying to declutter and not get sick / hurt / whatever again.
Mildly depressed, of course. But looking forward to being somewhere with a longer growing season, either way, and not being allergic to the outside at all times of year except the height of summer and the dead of winter.
Which I think is the major contributor to the ongoing health issues. There’s something here I’m really allergic to (an outdoor soil mold), but not your standard sneezing-sniffling-itchy eyes allergy, instead it’s an “inflame your entire respiratory system” allergy. Plus mildly allergic to ten other things that aren’t cats — grasses, more molds, a few trees.I spent my first few years here being pink, swollen, dealing with hives, and sleepy, and not knowing what the heck was wrong. I’ve been doing allergy shots for the past couple years, they’ve helped but it isn’t enough.
On the hobbies front: gardening has been less of a thing because I’m frankly anxious about being outside here for extended periods, the deer pressure here is absurd, and the yard here is already beautiful and forest-y and doing too much “farming” would wreck the vibe. So I’ve been doing a lot of online RP, some online video games (FFXIV, recently revisiting Genshin Impact thanks to previously mentioned online RP), did a game jam a couple years ago, and have been noodling on miniatures crafting. Currently feeling the “do more art” art bug but the move is taking up all my braincells, so we’ll see if any of that actually happens.
How’re you all?

Date: 2025-06-12 04:43 pm (UTC)Short version: been at my job for 10 years in May, still love it, current change of CEO in progress but we are currently optimistic. I spend the rest of my time writing, doing writing-related tasks, and coven stuff, along with two different (long distance) tabletop games.
The chronic health stuff is stable, still takes an annoying amount of management, but better than it was 9 years ago.

Date: 2025-06-12 05:09 pm (UTC)I'm also glad you've figured out that Denver is the not-correct place to be at the time when it is good for you to leave Denver. Texas would murder me (heat) but if it works for you, awesome. And otherwise, given that your last house in San Diego was Too Big (tm), I hope that if you do move back there, you can find something more to your taste. :hugs:
Lots of gardening for me right now, plus some baking (I can do bread but not pie) and biking, and
My DW is pretty up to date, if you feel like scrolling back through it, but no need if you're not.

Date: 2025-06-12 06:23 pm (UTC)I'm doing pretty well, locally. Parenting is rewarding - it does still involve being sideswiped by timesinks, but at least now they're stuff like "need to fill out 10 pages of forms for school" or "need to have a talk with kid about nutrition / homework / online safety" instead of "need to change this messy diaper" or "need to dress tantruming child". :D
Designing games continues to go well though there's some surrounding legal crap + tariffs making it less low-stress than it could be. I've gotten back into BJJ (brazilian jiujitsu), am reading some, and tend to binge video games for a while and then stop - I did a tight slingshot around Balatro in Deember, played Throne of Bone in Apr/May, and recently did a bunch of Gloomhaven digital (which I wanted to see more of without having the setup/teardown time of the physical version). Walking a lot, seeing friends, trying to find a sustainable non-zero amount of activism, trying to avoid sinking entire afternoons into "what did I even do?" online stuff (YouTube, TVTropes, etc) with some-but-not-perfect success.
Not making much jam these years, but what little I have made is from the cherry tree in our side yard, which is kinda neat. (We pulled out the apricot and peach trees, I couldn't keep up with the maintenance necessary for them to stay healthy.)
