Frustration

A poem started in my head
As I drove home; but what it said
I can't remember. I daresay
That months from now, in mid-workday,
The words will once again buzz through
And vanish quickly, as if cued,
The moment I touch pad and pen.
It's like a tune, come round again,
Insisting on just taunting me...
Yes, thank you, Poe, I'll have some tea.

Commentary

I would like to take a break
Before too much a chore these make.

Dull

I do not feel like
Writing a poem today
So I'll make it quick.

Poem, 5/16/2025

Time

One more week of school
And then the twins are free
A world of plans this summer
Footloose and fancy free
The books they'll read, the games they'll play
The picnics in the park
The peering through mom's telescope
On evenings after dark!
The foods they want to learn to cook,
The instruments they'll play
(If they put down their game remotes
For even one short day).

Sleep

My eyelids are too heavy
I cannot keep awake
Perhaps another poem
Will appear as morning breaks.

Written

I am no author of a mighty saga;
I tell no tale of vanquishment and war.
If battles long and bloody make you gaga
I recommend you try to find the door.

Meta, 5/13

I try to write a poem every day,
But if you think I'll catch up, no, I won't.
My poems are for interest and play,
Not torture that I ever dared to don't.

They may be rough, or partial, or uneven.
I might go back and polish some one day.
This much is true, though -- I have never written
A poem unfinished in what I

What
Tired of headaches
Feeling queasy
Always tired and
Focus shot
People say to
Test for chronic
Illnesses but
Test for what?

Estasounidense

In case I wondered
If I had made the right choice
I barely finished introductions
And I'm pushing my voice
I suppose it may be simpler
To list a continent name
But that doesn't make it accurate
To country, more's the shame.
"I'm from the western hemisphere,"
I might as well have cried.
Ugly American stereotypes
That I wish could have died.

Music

The guitar sits there silently
Dust clings to it now
I'd pick it up and strum it
But I just don't know how
My violin is in its case
Not touched for many years
I never learned to tune it, so
I've left it to my fears
My harp is in the closet
So the kids won't harm its strings
I keep forgetting that it's there
The silence nearly rings
The new piano lid is closed
To keep it safe from spills
Tomorrow, will I open it?
I think it's time I will.

Cattitude

There once was a kitten called Tom
Whose love was to romp and so on
With a bottle cap he
Would go on quite a spree
Or a piece of string he'd love to nom.
